I was a neighbour of Rodney’s in Hither Green for a few years. We attended Sunday morning mass together at St Swithun’s Church. I preferred the 8am service as it was quieter and reflective – usually there would only be three of us parishioners plus the priest. When I first went I go there first and was shocked during prayers to hear Rodney’s familiar tones sat behind me. Very private about his faith but a wonderfully warm man.
When I worked for John Battle MP – then Shadow Housing Minister – Rodney was a powerful advocate for travellers rights and for tenants in the private rented sector. A consistent champion of the oppressed. He is much missed.
