Tribute from Solidar

This week we heard the sad news that Rodney Bickerstaffe passed away (3 October).

A remarkable figure of the British and international labour movement, Rodney was also a champion of dialogue and gave a tremendous contribution to bring NGOs and trade unions together and join forces in the common fight for social justice.

He gave a substantial contribution to SOLIDAR and IFWEA work to build solidarity and alliances across continents. For about a decade, Rodney was the chair of the Global Network: an alliance of trade unions, NGOs and think thanks in Africa, Asia, and Latin America promoting decent work for all and a fair globalisation that would benefit the majority of the people and not small economic, financial and political elites.

From the World Social Forum to the WTO Ministerials, from high level meetings to grass root mobilizations, Rodney would be always in the frontline to defend the rights of the most neglected ones, to recall political leaders – no matter their political affiliation- about their duty to serve the people and put the respect of human dignity at the center of their decisions.

We will miss Rodney who committed his life to make this world a better one.
