Tributes to John Stevenson

Tributes to John Stevenson, Nalgo/UNISON activist, longtime friend and comrade of Rodney Bickerstaffe, and comms wizard behind this website amongst many campaigns and publications, who died on 6 April 2022.

From the UNISON Scotland  website:

John Stevenson the magic socialist.

From Bill Gilby:
It’s a fact that this website paying tribute to Rodney Bickerstaffe would simply not exist but for the commitment and work of John Stevenson – and many of you will be able to think of similar contributions he consistently made to the Labour & Trade Union movement. Action always followed the words.

I borrowed the website idea from friends of George McArthur, and I knew I was in safe hands when John agreed to build the website. A meeting in the Windsor Buffet in Leith Walk over a pint, a few email exchanges, and hey presto (I never knew he was a real magician!), this website came to life. Policy – Action, right enough.

John made a colossal contribution to Nalgo and UNISON – wise, grounded, and utterly reliable. He even provided me with two Hearts articles for the Raith Rovers matchday programme. John will never be forgotten.
